We trust that you saw out 2012 in style last night. Now fully recovered we take a look back at just a few of our theatrical highlights from 2012:
Up first – our hugely successful co-production of Wonderful Town was a unique collaboration between The Lowry, the Halle and the Royal Exchange. Starring Connie Fisher, it opened at The Lowry before a highly successful National Tour. Other highlights in the Lyric Theatre included One Man, Two Governors with James Corden from the National Theatre – which returns for a second visit in January 2013 – and Will Young in Cabaret. Away from the main stages, our innovative Studio programme was recognised with the Peter Brook Open Space Award for the most creative and successful Studio Theatre outside London – with ground breaking new shows like The Boy Who Kicked Pigs and Translunar Paradise which became an international hit after opening in The Lowry’s 140 seat theatre. The year ended with the festive musical to beat them all – White Christmas played to packed houses – while future highlights include the musical Hairspray and of course War Horse – the major theatrical event of the last ten years which will make its Northwest debut at The Lowry in November 2013 – already well on its way to being a total sell out!
On Twitter one of our favourite tweets was from Jennie Frain who had some difficulty with Google Maps:
Well Google maps voice recognition doesn’t understand my northerness…it translated ‘Lowry Salford Quays’ as ‘lottery sausage cheese’ !!

And a personal highlight of mine was photographing Radio 2’s Simon Mayo during the Folk Awards:
