To celebrate the West End hit Hairspray coming to Salford this February half term we are offering young people aged 11-16 the chance to take part in an exciting three-day Musical Theatre School.

These local young people will have the opportunity to work with professional Musical Theatre performers to sing, dance and act their way to a performance on Wednesday afternoon in The Lowry Studio theatre. This unique activity will be a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and have a great time this February half term.

Hairspray is The West End’s favourite musical comedy starring Mark Benton as Edna Turnblad, Lucy Benjamin as Velma Von Tussle, Marcus Collins as Seaweed Stubbs and newcomer Freya Sutton as Tracy.

Hairspray tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart as she sets out to follow her extraordinary dreams, inspire her mum and win the boy she loves. It is the musical with everything – the ultimate feel-good show which has played to sold out houses in London, on Broadway and theatres around the globe.

At The Lowry we are extremely passionate that we offer the young people in our city the chance to engage with the range of great art coming to Salford each week of the year. The Lowry’s Participation & Learning Manager said:

‘We are really looking forward to such a fun & energetic February half term with this Musical Theatre School. It’s open to anyone who wants to give it a go, no pressure. It’s as much about having fun and making new friends as it is about the getting the steps right!’

We have one Musical Theatre School exclusively for Salford half term starting on Mon 11 – Wed 13 February and one for Manchester starting on Mon 18 – Wed 20 February. The activity is suitable for anyone aged 11 – 16. Times 10am – 4pm each day.
