Something For The Weekend: Fri 20 – Sun 22 September

1. Tony & Mike – Sun 22 September

Tony the Owl lives in the countryside. He’s really happy in his little garden until Joe and Charlotte turn up and ruin his peace and quiet. They’ve moved from the city for a quieter life and, to be honest, they’ve got no idea what they’re doing. To make matters worse, they’ve bought Mike the Squirrel with them. He’s loud, he’s cheeky and he likes to party.

Perfect for all the family, Tony & Mike features puppetry, original music, and real earth. This is a story about making friends, being different and why that’s okay.

Commissioned by Farnham Maltings and developed with The Lowry with support from Corn Exchange Newbury and The Albany.

2. Matt Richardson – Sat 21 September

The new host of ITV’s Xtra Factor, and following appearances on MTV, E4, Channel 4 and BBC Radio 2’s Russell Kane’s Whistle Stop Tour, Matt brings his much anticipated debut tour to The Lowry this weekend.

‘Poised to become the next bright young sensation of comedy’ – The Guardian

‘His 2013 debut tour is definitely one for the diary’ – Three Weeks

‘A whirling ball of talent, energy and intelligent observational comedy’ – Off Beat Magazine

3. Unseen Lowry – all weekend

A unique opportunity to see works by LS Lowry which have never previously been exhibited. Privately owned, these paintings and drawings were in the Lowry’s home at the time of his death in 1976 and include some of his earliest sketches as well as paintings completed in the early 1970s. They range from landscapes to studies of individual figures and early drawings of mill scenes. Held to coincide with Tate Britain’s  ‘Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life’, these exhibitions provide a unique and memorable insight into the artists’ life and career.

Unseen Lowry closes on Sun 29 September, so you are running out of time to see this fascinating exhibition.

“The unseen works are testament to Lowry’s skill and sense of humour” – The Guardian
