Inspired to Aspire is an employability project aimed at helping 14-19 year olds from Salford. The initiative sets out to use the inspirational environment and people in local organisations like The Lowry to encourage and nurture aspiration within disengaged young people and help them into employment or education.
Inspired to Aspire in Salford is delivered by The Lowry and the Salford Foundation on behalf of Salford City Council.
ITA delivers a targeted service to young people with 60% of places going to post 16’s not currently in education, employment or training (NEET), and 40% going to pre 16’s at risk of becoming NEET. We have a Salford-wide focus on employment and development opportunities within the private and public sectors, and of course we are committed to getting as many opportunities as possible for young people in MediaCityUK.
Young people are referred to us from a wide variety of organisations, notably Connexions and particular emphasis is placed on priority groups such as care leavers; looked after young people; those with learning difficulties and disabilities; teenage parents; and those involved in the criminal justice system. Hundreds of Salford young people have already benefited from Inspired to Aspire and we are more determined than ever to make a difference to the city.
We take a bespoke approach to the intervention that each young person receives though their personal key worker including; one-to-one support for personal and vocational development, weekly group work session, leading to a qualification, weekly group work session, contributing to a qualification. Each young person isalso supported into work placement and bespoke work place visits, work experience sessions and employability workshops.
