After the huge success of the premiere of The Space Inside in July 2013, The Lowry’s Centre for Advanced Training in Dance are excited to be resetting the performance this week! When it was originally staged in July 2013, the audience response was overwhelming, prompting the decision to give the young the people the opportunity to celebrate their incredible achievement and share this extraordinary event further.
This is a unique performance and is the dancers’ most sophisticated and challenging work to date. Julia Fawcett, Chief Executive of The Lowry described the performance as ‘…complex and demanding, quite staggering, I was knocked out!’
The Space Inside explores physical relationships between dance, space, time and music creating an extraordinarily powerful atmosphere and is presented in an alternative performance environment in the round, which gives each member of the audience a distinct and unique perspective.
The work exists as a full-length piece of choreography set to original compositions played live musicians and shaped further by additional compositional arrangements by students at The Junior Royal Northern College of Music.
Over the course of the CAT academic year 2012-13 the dancers, directed by the core curriculum teachers, worked during their weekly creative and choreographic sessions, Intensive Weekends and Easter Courses to research and develop choreographic ideas and material.
Dancers on The Centre for Advanced Training come to The Lowry every week from across Salford and the North West to receive excellent quality training from professional artists from the dance industry. Their passion and commitment is clear to see by the overwhelming professional approach each dancer demonstrates in The Space Inside and restaging the piece is a testament to their dedication to their chosen career path.
The performance takes place this evening; Thursday 16th January at 8pm at The Lowry and Salford Residents are offered a reduced rate of £5 to watch this special performance. Box Office 0843 208 6000.
