The Lowry’s Dance Team, NorthWestDance are delivering Dance Open Days across the region for any young person interested in a career as a dancer!
At these open days you will hear about lots of exciting dance opportunities from The Lowry and local providers in your area. The Open Days include a fun and physical 3 hour technique workshop and creative session completely free of charge so if you love dance you can come along to your local Open Day at The Lowry on 18th May – you just need to book on with The Lowry’s Box Office!
You’ll particularly be able to find out more about The Lowry’s Centre for Advanced Training in Dance, an intensive dance scheme for young people passionate about training to become a dancer. The CAT doesn’t look for years of training, instead for incredible potential, passion and commitment to dance.
Emily Laing, 17, auditioned for the CAT when she was 15 after a Lowry CAT workshop visited her school. Emily had never had any previous dance experience aside from her ‘Baby Ballet’ class she took when she was little and the Dance GCSE she was embarking upon at school. The audition aims to assess the true potential of those auditioning, rather than technical excellence at this stage.
Auditions are open to anyone aged 12-16, but once you are on the CAT scheme you can stay with us until you are 18 years old. We asked Emily what she would say to anyone thinking about attending an Open Day and auditioning for the CAT. Her response, “just do it! As long as you are dedicated and passionate, you never know what opportunities could develop from it!” And she was right. With no previous experience she gained a place on the CAT and then a place on the foundation course at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance to start in September, and we wish her luck in her first steps towards a career in dance!
