500 singers required for unique performance opportunity

The creative team behind HONOUR – a commemoration of the loss, sacrifice and bravery of a generation during WW1 at Salford Quays on Sat, 2 August – requires a choir of 500 confident vocalists.

They’re looking for voices of all ranges – singers aged 18 and over.

The performance will be off copy! Practice between rehearsals will be necessary. Choirs and individual singers from across Greater Manchester will form part of an epic outdoor performance in August that will attempt to recreate the experiences of First World War soldiers from the North West.

Based on the short stories of men and women from the region, the performance on Saturday, 2 August, is entitled Honour. The audience will experience a sense of WW1 and come away moved and considering what it must have been like to be involved in the terrible events of 100 years ago.

Artists from performance, dance, animation, choral and the visual arts have collaborated to produce this free show that will be the biggest regional outdoor event around WW1. Huge visual projections of animations and film, new music and visual art commissions, dramatic scenes, lighting and audio effects as well as world-class dance company Phoenix Dance Theatre will help set the scene for the 40 minute performance, which begins at 9.45pm.

Lucy Dusgate, programme manager for Quays Culture, the body responsible for bringing cultural events to The Quays, said: “This is a one-off, site-specific piece that will transport the audience from the comfort of the MediaCityUK Piazza to the battlefield. The visual projections and audio effects involved are extraordinary in their scale and we’re hoping this event will give people a chance to reflect on the lives that were lost during the conflict.”
