Auditions for The Lowry’s Centre for Advanced Training in dance (CAT) took place on Sunday 8th June 2014 at Eccles Community Hall and were attended by over 60 young people from across the North West, some travelling in as far as Kendal in Cumbria for the opportunity to take part in this unique scheme.
Core curriculum teachers, Rob Bell and Lyndsey Thomas delivered a challenging audition process featuring contemporary dance technique, repertoire and choreographic elements all designed to assess the suitability of the dancers for the intensity of the training.
Many of the applicants had no dance training prior to trying a taster workshop either at their school or community group. Despite this, there was an overwhelming sense of determination from many of the participants and at the end of the day 24 young people were selected for the scheme.
The students will begin in September and have committed to between 10 and 14 hours a week of dance outside of their school/college curriculum in order to pursue a career in the dance and performing arts industry.
Preparations for the next audition that will take place in June 2015 are already underway, so young people who have aspirations to dance can still access the scheme and reach their potential. To find out more visit www.northwestdance.org.uk/CAT
