I am delighted to inform you of three very exciting developments at The Lowry.
Firstly, we have now reached our £5million target for capital improvements with the largest ever private donation in the history of The Lowry. Andrew and Zoë Law of the Law Family Charitable Foundation have donated an incredible £1m to the organisation.
Andrew and Zoë are no strangers to Manchester as Andrew grew up in the City and Zoë worked in the music industry here. They are keen LS Lowry collectors and admire the role The Lowry has played in both bringing performing and visual art to the North West and helping to regenerate the area around The Quays. In recognition of their donation, the Main Gallery spaces at The Lowry will be renamed ‘The Andrew and Zoë Law Galleries’.
Secondly, we are thrilled that we have been successful in receiving an additional £3million grant from ACE to fund major capital improvements across the building. This includes upgrades to our theatre spaces’ technical equipment, improvements to our energy efficiency through a new lighting scheme and a redevelopment of our award-winning hospitality offer, which is a core part of The Lowry’s operating model.
And finally, this comes alongside the announcement that The Lowry will continue to be part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio – receiving £800,000 a year for three years, from 2015-2018, to specifically support our theatres, cross-arts and learning and engagement programmes.
This is a very exciting time for The Lowry and I look forward to updating you on our journey in the months and years to come.
