This week sees the opening of a new exhibition curated by Choreographer and performer Akram Khan. Akram has selected work from some of the world’s most famous artists including Anthony Gormley and Anish Kapoor. The exhibition also features the work of an unknown artist from Ellenbrook Primary.
Eight year old Thomas Newton from Salford was one of twenty nine school children from Ellenbrook Primary invited by Akram Khan to take part in a workshop at The Lowry and then enter their artwork to be included in One Side to the Other. Thomas’s work will appear in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
The designs by the Year three class were judged by The Lowry’s curator of special exhibitions, Emily Tan, and Thomas’ winning piece has been framed and hung alongside other artists’ work. The exhibition brings together elements of performance and live installation work alongside sculpture, painting and film.
It is the second of The Lowry’s Performer as Curator series, which launched in 2013 with an exhibition by Alison Goldfrapp. For more information: www.thelowry.com/AkramKhan
