Young Artist Collective – Getting involved with Art

Artist Jack Doyle, working with pupils from St Patrick's High Sc

This season at the Lowry saw the launch of the Lowry Young Artist Collective, a free weekly art group for young people aged 14-19 years old who want to explore and develop new artistic skills.

Working with professional artists from across the region the group have explored both traditional and contemporary art techniques, from clay sculpting and screen printing, through to using digital media to bring comic book characters to life and creating stop start animation features.

I was really impressed with the level of both the commitment and enthusiasm of the group and the level of the skill shown by all the members Lead Artist

Several of the group are also members of other youth engagement projects at the Lowry including the The Lowry Young Actors Company and Commotions Youth Dance Company, and have been able to transfer these new skills to their other projects.

It has given me the opportunity to learn new things which have helped me to become a better performer as well as learning new art skills Young Artist

The Lowry Young Artist Collective will start again in the New Year. You can find more information on the project and other youth projects on the Lowry website http://www.thelowry.com/events/learn-and-take-part/youth-activity
