Today we got to sneek behind the scenes and into The Aldridge Studio to see how Laura Lindow and her trusty team of producers and technicians were coming along with then LEAP. The new production which will preview in The Studio at The Lowry on Fri 26 Sept, 8pm has been ‘Developed With’ The Lowry, so we were keen to hear how Laura has been supported through the creative process.
When we crept from behind the Studio doors, Laura was on top of some stairs with a GIANT ’35’ sat next to her. Whilst Laura was working her way through her lines, technicians were playing with lighting, working out the best times to switch and light the stage differently. It was great to see how everyone in the room was working together from Artist to Sound Design & Producer.
Laura and Jo (below) talked to us about the creative process that then LEAP has been on, and about how they have been supported by The Lowry throughout. In the beginning the aim was to join up Laura’s many skills as a writer, theatre maker and actor. Over a long period The Lowry has assisted with connecting her to an audience, both with Rural Touring and a Showcase here at The Lowry. These opportunities have allowed the artist to test out the work and learn what changes might need to be made. Laura has been supported by The Lowry’s dedicated programming, marketing and technical team amongst many others and talked about how each stage of the journey has been a discovery.
Laura and Jo described then LEAP as a ‘shonkie love song to a family,’ and is very much about the relationships that we have with our parents when we’ve grown older, left home and returned. In a town called ‘Tuckety-Stretch’ Laura will be creating a fantastical world akin to Wonderland, where anything goes and imaginations are left to roam.
For the rest of the week the team will be tightening up the production and doing dress rehearsals. then LEAP ‘Developed With’ The Lowry will preview on Fri 26 Sept in The Studio before premiering in London, so why not take a leap into a fantastical world and join us.
