Phew! What a week that was. Week53 was 11 busy days of new work, new shows, new everything, and we couldn’t have done it without the help of our Volunteers.
Our Volunteers are called VIP’s. And that’s because we simply couldn’t operate without them, they literally are Very Important People. So important that in 2015 they were recognised by the Queen and awarded a ‘Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service’ which is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK
As a presenting theatre some of the very best touring productions grace our stage featuring work by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Birmingham Royal Ballet, The National Theatre, Opera North and some of the UK’s finest stand-up comedians. Our VIP’s operate at the core of our Front of House team. Acting as ushers, selling programmes and merchandise they also ensure health and safety standards are met so that The Lowry runs like a well oiled machine.
Irene has been a volunteer at The Lowry since 2005 and she said,
“I have had some wonderful experiences here at The Lowry, like presenting flowers to the Principal Ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet, line dancing with Alex Ferguson in his dressing room. But the most moving moment for me was hearing Joey (the War Horse puppet) clip clop into the foyer on his first visit to promote the show. It brought a tear to my eyes!”

So if you’re friendly, looking to meet new people and learn new skills then we want to hear from you.
