Five Christmas stories you have to read

Over here at Colour The Clouds there’s nothing we like better than curling up with a good story, especially on a chilly, Christmas night. The little girl ‘Holly’ in our upcoming show ‘The Extraordinary Tale of Holly Christmas‘ also loves stories, so we thought we would put together our Top Five Christmas Books to share with you.

The Nutcracker by E.T.A Hoffmann.

This is Catherine’s favourite. She loves the magical adventure that the girl and the Nutcracker Prince go on to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy, and the colourful world that she lives in. She also loves the ending, and how the reader is left wondering if it really happened or if it was a dream….either way it’s all about the magic of Christmas.

The Jolly Christmas Postman by Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg.

This was chosen by Christabel because it reminds her of being a little girl and carefully opening all the envelopes to read the special letters and cards. She always used to wish the Jolly Postman would visit her house (in fact she still does!). Christabel still reads this book every Christmas Eve and this year she’s excited for her husband to read it to her baby bump!

How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Seuss.

Alyx has chosen this as her favourite Christmas story because she loves the line, ‘what if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas , perhaps, means a little bit more.’

Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs.

This is Sarah’s favourite Christmas book. The beautiful pictures tell the story and make it a book that everyone can understand and enjoy. It reminds her of being a little girl and the excitement of Christmas Eve.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

Mark has chosen this as his favourite Christmas book as he loves the story. For Mark this is the original Christmas story that all others take their inspiration from.
We hope our list has inspired you to grab a blanket and get cosy with your own favourite Christmas story!
