Under 26 offers: Ballet British Columbia

Hi guys!

First things first – happy international women’s day! Today should be a work-free holiday if you ask me, although admittedly as a woman I may be slightly biased…

So, the purpose of this post is to present to you another amazing opportunity. Dance Consortium: Ballet British Columbia are bringing their fresh, innovative and original dance style here to The Lowry in less than a month to gift you with an experience like no other. Some of you may be put off by the word ‘ballet’, but please don’t be! This is not the classical ballet style you may be envisioning. Instead, think contemporary dance, with plenty of meaningful and expressive movement.

So, why should you come along?

Well, for one, tickets are just a tenner for all Under 26 scheme members! (If you’re aged between 16 and 25, sign up for FREE to our scheme to get access to cheap tickets like this one and much more).

Also, as I mentioned at the start of this post, it’s international women’s day.

Two things about Ballet British Columbia that are super cool and interesting:

1 – Their Artistic Director is a fantastically skilled woman named Emily Molnar whom you can watch an interview with here.

2 – The piece that they’re bringing to The Lowry later this month comprises of three original pieces all choreographed by females!

What better way to celebrate such a momentous occasion than to book tickets to see these awe-inspiring choreographers’ masterpieces, right?

This doesn’t mean that Ballet British Columbia is solely for girls though, in fact absolutely anyone is welcome to come and celebrate not only international women’s day, but the breath-taking art of dance, too.

A little bit about the performance…

You’re probably thinking “Okay, sounds good so far. But what can I expect from the show?”

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.

So as I mentioned, the show consists of three separate pieces. The first piece is called ‘16+ a room’, and is choreographed by the aforementioned Emily Molnar. Inspired by the literature of Jeanette Winterson and Emily Dickinson, this piece will feature explosive and fast-paced movements, pushing the dancers to their limits both athletically and technically. The second of the three is the powerful and romantic ‘Solo Echo’, and is choreographed by Olivier award-winning Crystal Pite. Lastly comes the daring and spectacular ‘Bill’, a piece by Tel-Aviv based choreographer Sharon Eyal.

In a nutshell, expect a range of emotions to jump out at you from every dancer, as they tell passion-filled stories with their bodies in a way you haven’t seen before. Ballet British Columbia is packed full of flair, style, and creativity – take it from me, this performance is certainly not one to miss if you like modernity, but are also fond of the classics of life (let’s be honest, that’s all of us).
