An Interview with Fleabag producer Francesca Moody

Fleabag began its life as a short monologue at a stand-up storytelling night in a small room in London before going to Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2013 and winning a Fringe First. The rest, as they say, is history. The Lowry’s Creative Team take a look at art and ideas around the theme of Fleabag.

The Producer – Francesca Moody: This is a journey that has been well trodden and on our annual trip to Edinburgh (with the exception of 2020) the Lowry Theatres Creative Team search for ‘that show’ to bring it to Salford. We didn’t manage it with Fleabag but we have managed it with many others. To do this we work closely with producers such as the brilliant Francesca Moody – the first producer of Fleabag – who worked with us for the first two years of Paines Plough’s Roundabout project. She is back out there as an independent producer now and going great guns. This interview gives a great insight into the life of a producer and the independent sector. At this time, it is so important to remember how much the wider theatre sector needs them – where would be without their energy, their passion, their talent, their sacrifices?
