Created by artist Alexander Peterhaensel, Smile to Vote is an interactive artwork that predicts your political leanings by simply scanning your face. Our Digital Art programmer Lucy Dusgate experienced it at Ars Electronica Festival and found it was surprising accurate. What are the implications of AI-driven biometric scoring methods and their effects on democratic processes, self-determination and privacy in the digital age? Against a backdrop of trending AI political campaigns ad with uninterrupted access to mobile devices with integrated social media selfies, have we considered how this could be used to herd our political groupings to target what we receive and view in the media? Anything is possible.
