Rehearsing A Simple Man

A fascinating behind-the-scenes report by BBC North West on the making of A Simple Man, a ballet inspired by the life and work of LS Lowry.

It was commissioned by the City of Salford as part of the LS Lowry Festival in 1987, to be televised by BBC Television and later performed live at the Palace Theatre in Manchester.

Choreographed by Gillian Lynne, A Simple Man featured dancers from Northern Ballet, with Christopher Gable as Lowry, and Moira Shearer as his mother.
