In 2019 Allie Crewe’s Still I Rise exhibition at The Lowry celebrated Salford’s diverse history and cultures. Crewe won BJP’s Portrait of the Year award that same year and you can hear more about her and her work here https://vimeo.com/431524286
She has since become artist in residence at SafeLives, a UK-wide charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse https://safelives.org.uk. During the first three months of the COVID-19 lockdown three times as many women were killed than in the same period last year – at least 5 a week. Many people and children were locked inside a home with an abusive partner.
