I am Katy Lipson an Independent Producer and the founder of Aria Entertainment. Over the past 9 years I have produced over 65 productions and I am a leading champion of new work especially musicals in this country.
I wanted to bring CONTACT to The Lowry because it had already received a great reception from outdoor audiences after our Premiere ran in London in August 2020. I had been speaking to Matthew at the Lowry about what shows we could collaborate on and Media City has such a great outdoor promenade to use fo the show. I’m originally from Salford and have brought shows to The Lowry in the past – most recently The Addams Family which we are bringing back w/c 14th September, so bringing such an innovative new production here felt like the next logical step in the life of the show.
CONTACT is a brilliant piece because it’s something which I was able to produce during a global pandemic. It’s a really immersive piece of theatre which can be performed anywhere in the world, in any language – so not only were we able to continue to play to audiences in a Covid safe way outdoors, but an enormously wide range of audiences too. The use of technology and the 3D sound design is innovative and a thrilling experience.I think it’s really important to adapt as a producer and the pandemic has forced me to think about how we can continue to make theatre during unprecedented times whether it be outdoor theatre, theatre with socially distanced audiences or digital theatre.
Highlights.. Where to start… I have really been enjoying creating new collaborations, reading new work, exploring exciting opportunities and meeting new people. I have finally had the time to really sit down and focus on new work and talk to a number of talented new writers. I’m particularly excited to have made my West End play debut with the world premiere of CRUISE at The Duchess Theatre and transferring my production of The Last Five Years to The Vaudeville in September. I keep myself very busy and like to look at the positives of the last year. Things have been tough for us all, but the silver lining is we should all have a newfound appreciation for the theatre and remind ourselves not to take it for granted.
Keep an eye out for The Addams Family which will be coming to The Lowry on 14th September and running until 18th. https://thelowry.com/whats-on/the-addams-family/ Twitter: @AddamsFamilyUK
